Ahead of celebrations making the 2017 edition of National Day, the Government Delegate to the Kumba City Council, Victor Ngoh Nkele has decided to refurbish the almost crumbly Kumba City Council grandstand and give it the facelift.
The renovation work which started on May 11, with the filling of the grandstand with gravels to curb the problem of mud and runoffs, will continue with the disposal of heaps of waste piled at the grandstand.
The SDO for Meme, Chamberlain Ntou’ou Ndong together with his team visited the site and commended the Government Delegate for yielding to the cry of the population and ensuring that the grandstand has a status deserving of a city.
The renovation exercise comes on the heels of the incessant pressure the SDO mounted on on the Government Delegate to keep the grandstand clean. The SDO has always rendered notes of disappointment to the Delegate following the unhygienic situation of the grandstand.
The grandstand that has always been a center of attraction to many, according concerned Kumba denizens has been abandoned and neglected by the hygiene and sanitation department of the city council. Over the years it has served as a business center to many, housing facility to mad people and a refuse disposal ground for business men and women in Kumba. Most people also complained of the foul odour that emanates from the grandstand whenever there is the commemoration of an important event.
It should be recalled that the Kumba City Council Grandstand was constructed in 1985 by Late Mbange Makia, the then SDF Mayor of the Kumba Urban Council. Since then no major renovation has been done to improve on the beauty of the grandstand.
