Customs officer gets four-month suspension for ‘violent’ support to Eto’o

An element of the Cameroon Customs service by name Bitjong Bitjong Marius Igor has been suspended for a period of four months, for his ‘violent’ support to the President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o. Bitjong who works at the Commercial Brigade Customs service in Yaounde, was suspended on June 3, 2024, following a Ministerial Decision signed by Finance boss, Louis Paul Motaze.

During the period of suspension, the officer is prevented from going to his place of work, access to his salary and prohibited from putting on the Customs uniform.

The measure comes after Bitjong recorded a video which went viral on Social Media. In the video where he had his Customs attire on and driving, he urged Samuel Eto’o to go violent with the new coach of the National Football squad, Marc Brys, after the duo had an exchange at the FECAFOOT head office recently. Bitjong in fierce anger also urged the FECAFOOT boss to rally his fans whenever he has a meeting at FECAFOOT for them to go to FECAFOOT and once there’s an incident, the fans will come in and take over to address the situation, asserting that up to 15million Cameroonian youths are ready to die for Samuel Eto’o.

“You the friends of Eto’o, I want to tell you, you can’t remain there and watch this being done to Eto’o, you have to scatter, destroy…”, he had urged.

Bitjong by his action, according to the Ministerial Decision, exercised great indiscipline without reservation. The SUN gathered that prior to the suspension, Bitjong had been arrested and taken-in for questioning.

The MINSEP-FECAFOOT drama has been thrilling Cameroonians for over two months. The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Pr. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, took the responsibility to appoint the head coach, technical and administrative staff of the National Men’s football squad in early April. The country’s Football Federation headed by Samuel Eto’o counteracted the move, holding the Minister acted unilaterally and out of competence. FECAFOOT, in a bid to shift stance, accepted the new coach but appointed its own technical and administrative team. FECAFOOT then invited coach Marc Brys for a working session. However, Marc Brys came with the MINSEP-appointed technical and administrative staff. Various confrontations sparked off to which Bitjong reacted to.
