A bill authorising the President of the Republic to ratify the air transport agreement between Cameroon and Canada, is said to accrue huge benefits to Cameroon in the days ahead.
According to the government of Cameroon, the ratification of the said agreement will pave the way for the development of commercial opportunities between the airlines of Cameroon and Canada. The resultant effect of such is that it will ultimately lead to a reduction in transport costs between the destinations concerned.
On its part, the advantages for Cameroon are said to be enormous; it is expected to promote an increase in economic flows, the development of the civil aviation and tourism industries, as well as the creation of related activities. The said effects will not only be of benefit to large companies but also SMEs and local players in the logistics and tourism sectors.
Cameroon is home to one of the largest immigrant communities in Canada. According to data from the Ministry of Immigration, Francisation and Integration of Quebec, approximately 14,000 Cameroonians reside in Quebec, thus constituting the third largest foreign community, after the French and the Chinese. This agreement should therefore also strengthen human and social ties between the two nations, facilitating travel and family and professional exchanges.
In addition, the agreement offers facilities for the granting of customs duties and other fees, as well as the elimination of double taxation, which is likely to make economic exchanges more fluid and more attractive for investors from both countries. These measures aim to ease financial constraints for airlines and passengers, while encouraging closer cooperation in the field of air transport.
