Dr Enow Abrams Egbe satisfied with 2024 voter registration results

The Chairperson of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, Dr Enow Abrams Egbe has expressed satisfaction over the results obtained by the Director General of Elections at ELECAM, Dr Erik Essousse at the close of the voter registration exercise for 2024. Dr Enow Abrams Egbe was speaking recently at ELECAM Head Office in Yaounde as he chaired the 3rd ordinary session of the Electoral Board in the presence of the Vice Chairperson of the Electoral Board, Amugu nee Abena Ekobena Appoline.

The Director General of Elections, Dr Erik Essousse assisted by the Deputy Director General of Elections, Abdoulkarimou was serving as minutes Secretary.

Opening the session, Dr Enow Abrams Egbe credited the voter registration results to the hard work of Branch staff, as well as efforts made by stakeholders of the electoral process, including within the Cameroonian diplomatic missions and consular services abroad.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Board of ELECAM also announced ongoing working visit of top officials from the National Agency for Election Management of Chad who came to draw from ELECAM’s experience ahead of the forthcoming Chadian twin elections by December 2024.

He expressed on behalf of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, the heartfelt condolences of the entire staff to the families of deceased Hon Efande Bekono Pierre Roger, pioneer member of ELECAM and Armand Misse Epoune, Technical Adviser to the Vice Chairperson of the Electoral Board saying the gap will remain ever difficult to fill.

Concluding his opening statement, Dr Enow Abrams Egbe called on all members to be serviceable, putting the general interest of all first, while setting an enabling environment for inclusive, peaceful, transparent and credible elections in Cameroon.

According to a press release issued at the end of their deliberations, Dr Erik Essousse presented the quarterly activity report on the implementation of the 2024/2025 strategic plan and the 2024 staff training plan. He said ELECAM achieved its objective of registering at least 755 085newly enrolled electors. While pending completion of the ongoing clean up operations, the voters’ register now stands at 8, 116 960, including 27, 767 in the Diaspora. The statistics revealed a realisation rate of 116 percent and significant increase of 84,99 percent in 2022 to 113,27 percent in 2024.

The 3rd ordinary session was dedicated to reviewing the quarterly performance from July to September 2024 as submitted by the Director General of Elections at ELECAM.
