The Mambanda motor park in Kumba III Sub-Division is yet to go operational 18 days after Grand Councilors of the Kumba City Council during the examination of the 2016 administrative, management and stores accounts session on May 11 unanimously adopted a two weeks deadline for takeoff.
The decision arrived at by Grand Councilors at the Kumba City Council hall came on the heels of deliberations raised about the Mambanda Park following the slow pace at which the park was being constructed.
It should be recalled that due to the rapid construction of the Kumba-Mamfe road last year, the Kumba III Council in one of its council sessions adopted that the Ntam Motor Park that serves as a take off point for passengers travelling along the Kumba-Mamfe-Ekok and Bamenda axis and Kumba-Tombel-Loum axis be relocated from its present already decongested site at three corners to more a spacious area in Mambanda.
Worth noting is that the control of the Mambanda Park was handed to the Kumba City Council days after it was inaugurated by authorities of the Kumba III Council due after the Kumba City Council claimed that the park falls under the competence of the City Council.
This worry was raised again by the Mayor of Kumba III Council, John Kona Makia during the Kumba City Council’s last session on May 11, when he noticed that the park has been abandoned by both the city council and the drivers.
This according to Mayor Makia has slowed down the development of his municipality. He further told the Government Delegate that if he is incapable to develop and operate the park then he should give it over to the Kumba III Council to operate and hand it over after a year.
Meanwhile, Grand Councilor Rufus Oum Bigda noted that the nonfunctioning of the park has given rise to four different parks in the name of Ntam Motor Park. The situation which he said has led to numerous accidents.
On his part the Government Delegate to the Kumba City Council, Victor Ngoh Nkele said the delay is due to the reluctance of the Chinese company responsible for the development of the park to forward the estimate to the City Council.
Several weeks after the deadline given by the Grand Councilors no major development has been done to improve on park except for the usually clearing of the bush that has swallowed the park.
Many Kumba denizens have faulted the Kumba Government Delegate for not doing enough to bring to realization the goals projected by the Grand Councilors to the benefit of the Kumba population.
