Senator Andrew Otte Mofa has noted that despite the current crisis in Meme division, he is confident to emerge victorious in the upcoming Senatorial elections.
Senator Otte made this declaration on Saturday March 17, 2018 during a press briefing in Kumba.
‘I will win, I will win in Meme Division’, Senator Otte declared.
According to Senator Otte, given the fact that the election is at the regional level and based on list voting, he is confident that he will still emerge victorious even if some councilors in affected council areas do not vote.
He added that the fact that CPDM has the majority of councils and councilors in the region is a big contributing factor to their victory.
‘CPDM has the majority of councils in this region, out of the 31 councils, CPDM is controlling 27. In terms of numbers; SDF has only 114 councilors while CDPM has over 700 councilors’, Senator Otte hinted.
Asked how prepared they are for the elections, Senator Otte said given the numerous sensitization meetings with militants and councilors, he is assured that the CPDM party is very prepared.
Senator Otte disclosed that as senators their role is to vote laws at the constitutional level and control the action of the executive just like councilors and they are bound to work within their job description. He however regretted that these duties have been carried out successfully in the last mandate.
He however enumerated some achievements like monthly salaries for mayors and decentralization of councils; the creation of a Ministry of Territorial Administration and that council should be given money instead of projects.
He however called on councilors in the Southwest Region especially those within divisions seriously affected by the crisis like Meme to brave the odds and vote and make the election a democratic one.
