The President of the Republic, Paul Biya has responded to the plea of Cameroonian students quarantined in a city hard-hit by the deadly Coronavirus in the People’s Republic of China with a FCFA 50 million grant.
President Paul Biya instructed the Minister of Finance to immediately disburse the funds to the Cameroon Embassy destined to assist the students.
The Head of State’s gesture towards his compatriots in China comes barely weeks after the students addressed a letter to him, requesting financial assistance to help them survive in the quarantine city.

Announcing the presidential gesture in a press release, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu reassured that information obtained from the Cameroon Embassy in China says all the 500 students present in the country are healthy.
The Cameroon Embassy indicates that almost 300 Cameroonians are resident in Hubei province, and 200 others in Wuhan, the epicentre of the deadly outbreak.
It is worth recalling that Wuhan, the epicentre of the deadly Coronavirus playing host to 200 Cameroonian students has been on a lockdown for over three weeks running.
In the press release, the Minister Delegate, Felix Mbayu explained that as the situation persists, the Cameroonian government is working in collaboration with the Chinese government to monitor the evolution of the deadly disease.
Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus in China, citizens from different countries present there had seen their respective authorities taking special measures to keep them safe from any deadly attack by the virus.
The deadly Coronavirus has so far killed over 2000 persons, with almost 77,000 confirmed cases.
