School principals and teachers have been awarded certificates for participating in the digital education program on the proper use of medicine.
The ceremony was chaired by the Executive Secretary of African Synergy against AIDS and Suffering, Jean Stephane Biatcha last December 14, 2022 at the esplanade of the Pan African Association at Melen, Yaounde.
108 teachers were trained; more than 15141 youths sensitized on the proper use of drugs as well as 45 423 brothers and parents by the Pan African Association of First Ladies.
Since 2017, the Head of Division of Studies and Projects, Madam Carole TengueTchiekoua who is in charge of the Proper Use of Medicine (BUM) training project told The SUN that “we informed, educated and communicated with students on risks linked to auto medication, dangers of using drugs sold in the streets, adequate steps to look for health services and profiles of persons apt to prescribe drugs.”
The Executive Secretary of African Synergy against AIDS and Suffering, Jean Stephane Biatcha told reporters that, “This drug education programme is very important for teachers because we wanted to involve the Ministry of Secondary Education so that teachers can be our partners as a kind of mediator between African Synergy and students. The training brought together teachers in schools who represent to us, relay to students within the framework of the programme, the proper use of drugs. The programme today was computerized which means we can extend the use of the programme to youths milieus.”
He added that “It is a humanitarian action of the Founding President of African Synergy against AIDS and Suffering who is preoccupied with the mal use of drugs among young people in the country in particular and in the African continent in general. We thought that by sensitizing youths on the proper use of drugs, we will be addressing the whole society as well. The First Lady is committed and has no lesson to receive from whosoever.”
“We are very happy to have been recognized by the First Lady and Founding President of the Pan African Association, Mrs Chantal Biya. Indeed, we are pleased to be included in her humanitarian action.” A recipient told The SUN.
