ELECAM consults other stakeholders ahead of March 12 Senatorial elections

In prelude to the March 12, 2023 election of Senators, there was a consultation between Elections Cameroon and other stakeholders of the electoral process last February 24, 2023 at the Yaounde Mont Febe Hotel on the theme, “For a credible, secure, inclusive and peaceful election.”

Chaired by the President of the Electoral Board of ELECAM, Dr Enow Abrams Egbe, other stakeholders of the electoral process such as the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, the Minister of Women Empowerment and Family, Prof Marie Therese Abena Ondoa, Governor of the Centre region, Naseri Paul Bea, President of the National Communication Council, Joseph Chebongkeng Kalabubse, the Director General of Elections at ELECAM, Eric Essousse, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Front, SDF party, Ni John Fru Ndi  etc.

The President of the Electoral Board of ELECAM reminded participants that “the consultation as you well know is an instrument per excellence to nurture and forge a frank, effective and fruitful dialogue between the various stakeholders who participate regularly in the electoral process. The dialogue therefore must enable us on the eve of the senatorial election to brainstorm together in view to achieve, like the theme of this edition rightly spells out, a credible, secure, inclusive and peaceful election.”

The Electoral Code in its Section 11, sub 2 clearly stipulates holding of consultations between the Electoral Board and other stakeholders within the framework of management of the electoral process.

Dr Enow Abrams Egbe called on the responsibilities of all so that, a consensus is reached to make sure that the election of March 12 is handled with a lot of serenity.

He urged all stakeholders to work hand in gloves to preserve serenity in the political space by transcending different opinions and belonging to political parties.

The President of the Electoral Board of ELECAM exhorted all participants to make sure that the consultation is of high intellectual quality and that they will work in conviviality, solidarity, respect and collective search for efficiency so that they will be convinced to have organized a credible, secure, inclusive and peaceful Senate election in Cameroon come March 12, 2023.

Speaking last February 23, 2023 during the 4th session as of right in view of the March 12, 2023 election of Senators at the Head Office of ELECAM in Yaounde, the Chairperson of the Electoral Board of ELECAM, Enow Abrams Egbe said ELECAM is ready to supervise, control and do a follow up evaluation of the electoral process.

“We adopted a proactive and anticipatory mindset,” Enow Abrams Egbe said in his opening speech during the session adding that, “It has made us, up to now, to effectively gain precious time on deadlines in the electoral process that we all know is highly restrictive.”
