Fuel scarcity hits Fako, pump price jumps to FCFA 1000/Litre

By NEB

There is currently a high level shortage of fuel circulation across Fako Division, South West, which has triggered the pump price per litre fuel to FCFA 1000.  While many vehicle owners quickly rush to road side fuel as an option, even there, the story is not different at present, as 10litres now sell at FCFA 9,500, from FCFA 6,500 recently.

A road side fuel vendor who spoke to The SUN, said she is currently off business, and only waiting for her main supplier, who promised some fuel availability at the weekend.

Reports say some unscrupulous business persons have also resorted to mixing the little fuel available with kerosene in order to make brisk business during this period of shortage. “A colleague of mine bought fuel from a supplier who had apparently mixed it with kerosene, and at least two customers who bought the fuel have raised reports on the negative effect on their vehicles. As I speak with you, my colleague has been convocated”, our source recounts.

Fuel shortage has a direct negative effect on commuters, as many drivers park their vehicles, leaving a few on the streets. This automatically increases demand which also pushes up transportation fare, making life difficult for many.
