Speaking to the press after her visit, Nalova Lyonga said it was very important to come and encourage young children who have braved all odds to begin schooling. She added that she never intended to come to South West Region as she has been working in the Littoral Region, but it occurred to her that there are children in the South West Region who are going to school.
“I was so surprised to get to Saker Baptist College and see the whole classroom all full. If you’re outside, in fact you might not know what is going on. At least one may say that, that’s a boarding school, but just imagine the joy also when I got to GBHS Limbe and saw the children not only in class but playing outside!” the Minister explained joyfully.
On the issue of Technical Education, Minister Nalova Lyonga said the special attention of Technical Education is that in this century, most of the jobs are in the technical field, including Plumbers, engineers, electricians among others. She added that, gone are those days people used to have an impression that those who do technical studies are the weaker students but today, that’s not the case as Technical Education now rules the world.
“That’s where the jobs are, reason why we are opening technical schools and our emphasis is to have more technical schools” she said.
She added that, children should not fall prey to those who are clamouring for school boycott but they should massively come out for school, for education remains the vital tool for development.
