Nganou Djoumessi reveals colossal amount invested in Integration Road Programmes, Transport and Transit Facilitation project in CEMAC

The Chairperson of the National Steering Committee for Integration Road Programmes, Transport and Transit Facilitation project in the CEMAC zone and the Multimodal Transport Project, Cameroon’s Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi chaired last March 4, 2025 at the Yaounde Mont Febe Hotel, a working session of the Committee, during which he revealed the colossal amount spent on the project already.

Minister Nganou Djoumessi revealed at the occasion that construction works on the Tchakamari-Dabanga-Kousseri and Ngaoundere-Garoua will soon start by the end of the first semester of 2025.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, he disclosed that “FCFA 1 957 110 584 226 investment enabled to ensure the completion of the following projects and programmes; Matazem-Welcome to Bamenda (18km), Bamenda bypass town (4.93km), School des Champions- Amour Mezam Agency (5.5km) as well as 30km of council roads tarred in the localities crossed by the road Babadjou-Bamenda, engaged rehabilitation of the sections Maroua-Moutourwa (36 km), Magada-Guidiguis (68.30 km) and Guidiguis-Yagoua (68.70 km), the construction of sections of Kumbo-Nkambe-Misaje including bypass Nkambe road in the North West region, Bogo-Guirvidig (32,86 km), Maroua (6,2 km), Guirvidig-Pouss (30,86 km) and Maga (2 km) and Guirvidig (2 km), construction of Mora-Tchakamari (22km road) in the Far North region.”

Key on the agenda of their deliberation was the examination and adoption of the 2025 work plan and annual budget for the agencies implementing road projects, air and rail components of the Multimodal Transport Project.

The National Steering Committee for Integration Road Programmes and Transport Facilitation Projects in the CEMAC zone is the coordinating body for road projects implemented to improve traffic and transport in the CEMAC zone.

In a chat with reporters, Minister Nganou Djoumessi explained that “We have already constructed many sections of the road. Out of the 13 sections of the road, we have to take into consideration our sub-regional programme. So, we have completed with many main towns, as you know. We have also completed with bridges like Logone Bridge in the Far North, or Mayo-Limani, or the Cross River Bridge. Logone Bridge opened our market to the Republic of Chad and the Cross River opened our market also to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We have completed already the first section of Babadjou-Bamenda. We have completed the entire section, that is to say 51.9 km and by the end of June, we will complete the main section.What will remain will be the urban section, on which we are working already so that, the company should mobilise itself and start working.”

He concluded that “We still have to complete like Edea-Kribi road. We have also to complete this very, very important Bekoko-Limbe-Idenau road. We have to make sure that the financing is really available so that we can start. So many things have been done and so many things remain to be done”, he said.
