Ahead of the 47th edition of the National Day celebration in Bamenda, authorities of the region have held a first preparatory meeting geared towards a successful May 20th celebration.
During the meeting that held on Thursday April 18, North west Governor, Adolph Lele Lafrique drew the attention of administrative authorities and service heads on the importance of actively taking part in activities that concern the state. According to him, serious sanctions will be meted on officials who boycott May 20th celebration. “I have already issued circular letters to everybody to warn them that sanctions are going to be meted on those who will try to boycott the national occasion”.
The governor went further to call on traditional authorities to see in to it that their subjects who have fled the villages be brought back and regain their lives. “I advice mainly the communities through their traditional rulers to take their responsibilities to bring back the population that are staying elsewhere and reconcile them and reintroduce them to the society”.
To ensure a successful national day celebration in the North west region, committees were created to oversee the activities.
Since the start of the crisis in the North west and South west regions of the country, official events have most often been boycotted by majority of the population. This as a “ghost town” day, is imposed on denizens of these regions by separatist fighters on such days. To this effect, during the preparatory meeting ahead of May 20th celebration, the population of the North west region was called upon to turn out massively and take part in official celebrations geared towards strengthening national unity.
