The boys dormitory of PSS Mankon has been burnt after heavy gunshots erupted in the city of Bamenda in the night of August 21.

At about 2: am Monday, August 22, 2022, the campus of PSS Mankon was invaded by strange armed men who on arrival started shooting. Moving round the campus and finally setting the Form 5 Boys dormitory on fire.

As the armed men left the campus, the school authorities hurriedly informed the army rescue unit who mobilized to save the building.

Unfortunately, the roof and walls of the building had already given way. The army rescue unit prevented the fire from crossing-over to other dormitories.

The burning comes barely two days to the start of the new academic year for fresh students and students of examination classes.

The remains of the Dormitory

This is the 3rd time the school has come under arson attack after it was previously attacked on 22 and 23, 2021.

While no particular reason has been advanced for this incident, it is believed that pro-separatists fighters who want to disrupt the start of the new school year are responsible.

School boycott has been at the centre of the armed struggle in the English-speaking North West Region and South West regions of Cameroon since February of 2017.

The Moderator of the PCC is still to issue a statement on the incident while administrative authorities are carrying out an assessment of the damage done this far.

PSS Mankon scored 100% in both the GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level during the just ended academic year.
