The Divisional Officer of Tiko Sub-Division, Voh Kawah Amstrong has announced that the Government of Cameroon has approved the construction of a Women Empowerment Center in Tiko. The good news was made known during commemorations marking the 40th edition of the International Women’s day.
“I just had firsthand information that the government has approved the construction of a women empowerment center in Tiko”, the DO said. The news was lauded by the women who said their greatest prayer has finally been answered.

Celebrated under the theme: For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality and Empowerment”, the ceremony witnessed the 2nd deputy Mayor of the Tiko Council, Ngomba Elmina appeal to the women in her municipality to register massively so as to exercise their voting rights in the upcoming presidential elections in Cameroon. In line with this year’s theme and talking to the press, the 2nd deputy Mayor said, “My message to the women is that they should understand that they have given us equal rights, so no woman should be left behind. We do not want to hear women saying because they are women, they can’t do it. I was telling them that we can make a change even in this upcoming presidential election because we the women form a majority of the population in Cameroon, so we should register and together we can decide on the person that will lead us”, she said.

The Mayor of Tiko municipality, HRH Dr. Peter Ikome Mesoso III added his voice to that of the 2nd deputy Mayor, calling on women to register their names on the electoral register. He encouraged the women to exercise their civic rights.
The 40th edition of the International Women’s Day in Tiko was symbolic as it saw massive participation of women, including women with disabilities beautifully dressed with their women’s day fabric.
Reacting to the news on the creation of a Women Empowerment Center in Tiko, the Sub-delegate of Women’s Empowerment and the Family , Kahndi Asanatou said “Since I came to Tiko, it has been my cry for the creation of a Women Empowerment Center here in Tiko and I am overjoyed today because I have been assured sooner than later, the center will go operational in Tiko”.
One of the Women, Clementine Asonganyi expressed gratitude to God for a day set aside to celebrate the woman. “First I want to thank God for this wonderful day that has been given to us like women”. She assured that the celebrations will definitely be responsible because Tiko is a responsible town with responsible women.
