British High Commissioner to Cameroon, H.E Rowan Laxton has seen off 13 scholars from Cameroon heading to the United Kingdom to begin their Chevening journey.
Wishing the scholars well in their trip to the UK during an official farewell ceremony last September 6, 2018 at the residence of the British High Commissioner to Cameroon in Yaounde, H.E Rowan Laxton advised them to always keep in mind the idea that they are traveling to tap knowledge and return home to better their communities and country.
The UK Diplomat urged the scholars to “use their one-year stay in the United Kingdom to develop professionally and academically, grow your network, experience UK culture and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.”
Also present to bid the scholars farewell were members of the Cameroon Chevening Alumni Community and the Cameroon Women’s Scholarship Alumni.
The farewell ceremony was preceded by the Chevening Open Day, an initiative of the British High Commission in Yaoundé to coach prospective Chevening applicants on the application process. At the Open Day, candidates were given step-by-step guidance on how to approach the core areas in their Chevening applications. Chevening in Cameroon took time out to answer questions and share their UK experiences with them. Candidates were also given step-by-step guidance on how to get registered and prepare for the English Language Proficiency test, IELTS exam offered by British Council. During the occasion, youths with ambition, leadership potentials and strong academic background were encouraged to apply for the 2019/2020 Chevening Scholarship programme from August 6, 2018 to November 6, 2018.
It should be recalled that Chevening is the UK government’s global fully-funded scholarship programme that offers future leaders the unique opportunity to pursue a one-year master’s degree programme in any subject at any UK university.
