Greed, favouritism ‘ruining’ National Assembly – MP discloses

By Doh James Sonkey

A National Assembly member who talked on condition of anonymity to The SUN the National Assembly is being ruined by greed and favouritism.

The Member of Parliament was reacting to recent developments emanating from the Glass House notably the Memo from the North West CPDM Parliamentarians and a preliminary report of Questors of the House who are asking for clarifications over a FCFA 2.7 billion shortfall in the accounts of the House after investigations.

The MP, while acknowledging and seeing as reasonable the concerns of NW MPs was worried that the memo mostly targets posts retained by the South West CPDM Parliamentarians while the National Assembly has bigger problems. The National Assembly who requested not to be quoted says greed and favouritism are killing the National Assembly.

Speaker of the National Assembly,
Rt. Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril

The MP argues that the people who are perpetrating these acts are shielding a lot of things from the Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt Hon Cavaye Yeguie Djibril. The Member of the National Assembly blames the North West Parliamentarians for also going the way of the Director of Cabinet of the Speaker whom they are accusing. They say in it that they are targeting mostly South West Parliamentarians and the posts they are occupying in the Lower House of Cameroon’s Parliament.

The MP complained that two years after promotion and appointment no dime has been paid, nor received the car entitled to MPs with the status.

On the contrary the MP said “the National Assembly sends their friends and collaborators to frivolous missions abroad and pay them upfront. That some people hardly go on missions meanwhile a few go who are friends to them are paid upfront meanwhile those who have legitimately gone don’t receive their mission allowances”.

According to information reaching The SUN, Questors of the House are currently carrying out an auditing at the National Assembly and have held several crisis meetings after the publication of the preliminary report.

According to a letter written to the Cashier of Accounting Department of the National Assembly and signed on behalf of the Ad hoc Committee President, Hon Theophile Baoro, said Questors noticed that FCFA 2.719.696.001 representing FCFA 948.689.994 in 2022 and FCFA 1.771.006.007 for May 31, 2023 are lacking in the coffers of the House and is asking for the whereabouts of this money. Hon Baoro Theophile asked for clarifications on this noticed dysfunction noticed by the Questors.

Maybe in a move to douse the fire The SUN has learnt that the speaker of the National assembly, Cavaye Yeguei Djibril has since the weekend been on a mission to the Far North alongside some parliamentarians including those of the opposition.
