The 13TH congress of the Cameroonian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (SCAR) ended in Douala on Friday, October 27 calling on hierarchy to create more intensive care centres at the doorsteps of all Cameroonian communities from North to South and East to West.
The call was made by the members of the congress through their President Dr. Pierre David Ebosse after revealing that research findings indicate that 200,000 people more or less die out of the results of strokes caused by high blood pressure incensed by alcoholism, drug or narcotic consumption, HIV-related complications and so on, in all the major fields of medicine.
It should be noted that after four (4) hours of not treating severe cases, recovery is not probable, said Dr. Ebosse, reason why many intensive care units are needed to have time advantage for the patients.
SCAR also intends to change the narrativeto be more visible. The surgeon, he said is more of a star than those who actually did the work and the background forthe specialist to succeed.This is one of SCAR’s contributions and objectives in this seminar. So, they have to reverse that image and bring about visibility in their expertise.
Also included in the deliberations of this edition is to improve the capacity of their human capital to bridge the gap now existing because of the advancement of their technology in their modem equipment and the latest uncertainties in global trends such as natural disasters, environmental, climatic and other changes.
“The SCAR is keen to maintain a high level of competence among its members through the organisation of thematic days and scientific congresses… design and implement effective protocols for handling vital emergencies and make things possible through the training of teams, on the one hand and on the other, the mobilisation of natural resources to limit the loss of human life.” Said Dr. Ebossé.
Then he went on to say, “After this, we are to compile a report to our ministry with the following recommendations as mentioned. We do this every year. We had made recommendations in the past. One of them was instrumental in the creation of a National Centre for Blood Transfusion”.
The recommendations are expected along this lines ;“We are responsible for the recovery of very severe cases in all the fields of medicine. We cannot do so effectively without modern equipments, more centres and improve our capacities,” he reiterated.
