The European Union has for the first time in its 60 years of relationship with Cameroon organized a film festival. Speaking during the official launching ceremony of the week of Europe in Cameroon last May 8, 2017 at the French Institute in Yaoundé, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Cameroon, Ambassador Francoise Collett explained that the festival offers them an ideal opportunity to show another image of Europe through culture.
The EU Head of Delegation to Cameroon, H.E Francoise Collett, French Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E Gilles Thibault and Representatives of Italian and Spanish Ambassadors to Cameroon all stressed that they wanted something special to mark this 60 years of cooperation between the EU and its African partners, including Cameroon.
The week of Europe in Cameroon organized last May 8 to 13, 2017 enabled the public to visit the rich 60 years of relationship between Cameroon and the EU aimed at reinforcing the knowledge of the EU as quality political, economic, trade partner of Cameroon.
Asked why EU seems to be contributing only a little in the domain of culture, the diplomats refuted the claims and underlined that “we are doing our best to promote Cameroon culture but we cannot take the place of the government or private investors in this sector.”
With special focus on the youth, the EU Week in Cameroon enabled the public to discover the other side of the Europe Union through the projection of some 7 comedy films from 7 countries; (France, Belgium, Great Britain, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Germany), to witness handing of Best Films prizes to best producers whose films are shown during the Digital Mobile Cinema caravan and take part in a sport walk.
Haven invested more than 953.43 million Euros as donations in different sectors; forest-environment, health, trade and industry, agro-industry, rural development, infrastructures, social projects etc, the European Union equally intervenes in other sectors such as governance, security, energy etc.
