In June 2023, the arrival of Compagnie des Bananes de Mondoni (CDBM) in the Cameroonian banana market marked a significant milestone.
With 1,208 tons of bananas exported in April 2024, as reported by the Association Bananière du Cameroun (Assobcam), this subsidiary of Compagnie Fruitière de Marseille has achieved its highest performance to date.
This result propelled the company to third place among banana exporters in Cameroon, ahead of Boh Plantations PLC. Assobacam’s data reveals that Boh Plantations only exported 781 tons of bananas in April 2024, almost the same as the 789 tons shipped in April 2023.
Meanwhile, the state-owned banana company, CDC, has seen a 41% increase in exports year-on-year, rising from 1,803 tons to 2,543 tons between April 2023 and April 2024. The market leader, PHP, experienced a 9% growth in exports, reaching 12,365 tons in April 2024 compared to 11,336 tons the previous year.
Benefiting from the strong performance of CDC and PHP, coupled with the growing exports of CDBM, Cameroon recorded banana exports of 16,897 tons in April 2024. This marks an increase of over 21% compared to the 13,928 tons exported in April 2023.
