Records from the 2023 financial year sourced from the financial Statements of the African telecommunications giant MTN states that their subsidiary MTN Cameroon scored a net surplus of 9.905 billion rand or an equivalent of FCFA 316.4 billion in the period under review.
The outstanding performance of FCFA 70 billion over that of the previous year was found to have contributed significantly to the hike in realisations to the Group. By contrast the hike in relative terms stands at 28.2 percent today than the almost FCFA 246.6 billion in 2022.
Looking at the African landscape, the report says MTN Cameroon’s performance is limping behind that of the group’s subsidiaries in Ivory Coast and Ghana where they were said to have scored surpluses of 10.30 billion rand or FCFA 328.02 billion and 20.77 billion rand (FCFA 661.3 billion) respectively.
Nonetheless in Cameroon, MTN Cameroon is reported to be excelling, if not dominating the market share said to be over 51.6 percent with just less than 11 million subscribers. The remaining ratio is shared by other actors in the telecom market.
Sources say MTN, Camtel and Orange realised a total revenue of FCFA 584 billion in 2022 even though at the time, it was not specified whether the resources were generated from data like internet, financial services like MOMO or calls. However, from analyses made over the years, MTN is said to
be cementing its leadership role despite some recent challenges. Concerning the said challenges being faced, officials shrugged when asked and instead, emphasised that customers continue to appreciate MTN’s services because of their best deployment and best network in the country.
Another proof of financial health according to statistics sourced from the South African operator, states that MTN Cameroon contributed significantly to the group’s rise in relative terms of 13.5 percent totaling 210 billion rand (FCFA 6.680 billion.)
