The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Celestine Ketcha Courtes has launched the construction of social lodging facilities for commercial motorcycle riders in Douala V. She launched the construction works last May 26, 2024 in the presence of administrative and traditional authorities.
Speaking at the occasion, the Minister said “The President of the Republic, H.E. Paul Biya said we should not leave anybody behind. You commercial motorcycle riders, you will have your own decent and affordable houses here at PK21 in the Douala V municipality. We will not keep these economic operators (buyam sellam and commercial motorcycle riders) aside as wanted by our Head of State in his 2018 speech. We will permit them to have access to decent and affordable lodging facilities and avoid anarchical occupation of our territory.”
The Housing and Urban Development boss added that “in fact, it was in 2019 that the President of the Republic instructed me to follow up this project for commercial motorcycle riders to have a decent and affordable lodging facility.”
During the two-day working visit to the Littoral region, the Minister chaired the signing ceremony of the convention and the laying of the foundation stone at PK21 for the construction of the social lodging facilities in the Douala V municipality with the accompaniment of Credit Foncier du Cameroun and of the microfinance CECAW.
The project was conceived and realised by the Archi Building Engine Company in the locality of PK21. This pilot phase will consist of key construction of 160 social lodging with stabilised bricks.
