Cameroon movie legend, Otia Vitalis, dies

Otia Suh Vitalis, one of the biggest faces of the Cameroon Film Industry, CFI has died at the age of 57. The news of his death broke out on Sunday, June 9, with many fans/collaborators describing the day as “Black Sunday”.

Fondly called Pa Otia, the veteran is said to have passed away in the early hours of Sunday, June 9, 2024 in the Biyemasi District Hospital in Yaounde. The cause of his death was still unknown at press time.

On a phone chat, the Board Chair of CFI, Brenda Elung told The SUN on Sunday that an official statement with regards to the movie icon’s demise shall be released by the Board on June 10.

Collywood movie legend, Otia Vitalis, gone

Otia hailed from Menchum, North West region but grew up in Tole, Buea Subdivision, South West of Cameroon.

Tributes have continued to pour in, as Cameroonians remember one of the most favourite faces in the country’s movie industry.

The legendary actor who was also a producer with a background in biomedical science was the pioneer Board Chair of the Cameroon Film Industry CFI. He was also founder and president of the Red Feather Awards.

He made his debut in the movie world in 2006 when he featured in a 17-episode TV series produced by CRTV titled “Facing Destiny”.

The actor is said to have featured in about 50 movies and series after then, including some strong titles like ‘Bad Angel’, ‘Saving Mbango’, ‘Broken”, ‘Love Trap’, ‘Hidden Dreams’, ‘A Dead Man’s Wish’ among others, which earned him a number of recognitions. The SUN gathered that before signing off, Otia acted in ‘Reckless Dad’, a piece which will be premiered in the near future.
