The Board Chair of the Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC, Hope Sona Ebai, has insisted that the Corporation will embark on diversification of short cycle crops so as to assist government on import substitution for sustainability and equally generate more income to the Corporation.
He made this statement on Wednesday June 19, 2024 during CDC Board of Directors meeting at the boardroom of CDC in Bota, Limbe. The statutory board meeting was programmed to review the accounts of the Corporation for 2023. During the in-camera session, the Board members reviewed the account of the Corporation for the 2023 physical year and endorsed as justifiable.
Sona told the press, “This is a statutory board meeting that had to be held before the end of June to review the account of the enterprise of the year ending 2023. We just did the exercise, we approved the account. Approving the account means that we think that the exercise that went through the year 2023 was justifiable”, he explained.
He added that they agreed that the procedures in keeping the accounts of the company were followed and it reflect the current state of affairs of the corporation.
“The Sate is giving the support that we need and we continue to hope that they take additional measures to bring more life to the Corporation,
“We are hoping that with this improving in our account, there will be some good news for the workers in the days ahead”, Hope Sona said.
The Board Chair specifically pointed out that, “One of the areas we want to insist on management is the area of short cycle crops. As the name implies, short cycle is quick planting, quick harvest, quick returns that can improve the day-to-day liquidity situation we have difficulty in”, he told the press at the close of the session.
“We have been saying that for long, we think it’s time that we start to do cassava, corn and grow those things that bring quick income so we can cover the gaps to engage in regular remuneration to workers”, he said.
Hope Sona Ebai expressed confidence that the Corporation will return to normal, judging from the progressive figures presented by the Corporation’s General Manager, Franklin Ngoni Njie.
He praised government for keeping CDC afloat despite all difficulties, and efforts being made not only to bring lasting solutions to the Corporation but to the men and women who constitute the Corporation’s work force.
Hope Sona Ebai pledged CDC’s support to sustain the Corporation in the course of the ongoing crisis rocking the South West and North West Regions of Cameroon.
