The Traditional Ruler of Nake Bokoko in Mbonge Subdivision, Meme division of the South West region has been selected for an award, for his contributions to peace and development in the community.
His Majesty Chief Nofuruh Ivens Disombe will receive a Peace and Community Development Icon Award for his royal ingenuity, shrewdness and power of dialogue in getting misled youths to return to living normal lives.
He will also be recognised for his ceaseless community development initiatives. The award will be conferred on him by the Cameroon English Language Newspaper Publishers Association known in its acronym as CENPA.
His Majesty Nofuruh Ivens was selected by a meticulous CENPA’s jury made up of the following members: Barrister Akere Muna, member of African Union High Level Panel on Illicit Flows from Africa, Co-Chairman of Common African Position on Asset Recovery, former Chairman of International Anti-Corruption Conference Council, former Vice Chairman of Transparency International, former President of Pan African Lawyers Union and the Cameroon Bar Association; Senator Nfon Ekoko Mukete, Paramount Ruler of the Bafaw tribe in Meme division of the South West region, Senator, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Crafts of Cameroon, former Board Chairman of United Bank of Africa, UBA- Cameroon; Esther Omam, Executive Director of Reach Out Cameroon, member of Board of Directors of Women Peace and Humanitarian Fund, member of Women Mediators Across the Commonwealth and member of the International Civil Society Actions Network; and Ngah Christian Mbipgo, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian Post, Interim President of the Federation of Cameroon Newspaper Publishers FEDIPRESSE, President of Cameroon English Language Newspaper Publishers Association CENPA, member of the committee to study application files for government subvention to the private media in Cameroon and Goodwill Ambassador of Arkansas State, USA.
According to the Organising Committee, the award presentation ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the Yaounde Hilton Hotel under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency The Minister of Communication. The event will be attended by top government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, political, religious, civil society and traditional authorities, who have been invited.
Worthy of note is that the Cameroon English Language Newspaper Publishers Association CENPA is a grouping of 15 English Language newspaper publishers.
It was created with the main objectives being to promote national unity, peace reporting and responsible journalism.
About the laureate
The laureate, His Majesty Chief Nofuruh Ivens Disombe, is the Secretary General of the Meme Chiefs’ Conference MECCO, Assistant Financial Secretary of South West Chiefs’ Conference (SWECC), member of the Steering Committee of the Voyce Project, member of Voices of Youths in Cameroon for Peace for the prevention of the radicalisation and re-redicalisation of youths in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon. He has been very instrumental in the surrendering of huge number of youths (former fighters) in Mbonge Subdivision who are now at the DDR Centre in Buea.
As a sworn Produce Controller with the National Cocoa and Coffee Board (NCCB), he also serves as a facilitator on Cooperative business school and farmers business school at the Kumba branch.
