The national president of the Cameroon Party for National Reconciliation, PCRN, Cabral Libii has commended the justice system in Cameroon, after he elbowed Robert Kona in a legal duel over the leadership of the party.

Reacting to the court verdict which dismissed the case filed by Kona against Libii’s competence at the helm of the party, the latter took to his X account to write that, “We are grateful to God for His guidance and blessings. We commend the justice system for its unwavering commitment to upholding the Republic’s principles.”

Libii also acknowledged the role played by the party’s national Vice President, Barr Rene Roger Bebe in the case.

The Kaele Court of First Instance, in the Mayo-Kani Division of the Far North Region, last September 5, flushed out the claim of one of the founding fathers of the PCRN party, retired civil administrator, Robert Kona, to the leadership of the PCRN.

Kona sued Cabral Libii in December 2023, with intention to execute the annulment of the PCRN congress of May 11, 2019 held in Guidiguis, Mayo-Kani Division, Far North. The said meeting which Kona argued had just 11 members present, saw Cabral Libii ascending the leadership of the party.

Recall that the Maroua Court of First Instance in its May 21 ruling on the PCRN case had outlined that the statutes of the PCRN party did not recognise the appellation of founding president.

The infighting which dragged on for at least 10 months disrupted party activities, including the party’s congress which was scheduled for December 15 to 17, 2023, in Kribi. The said congress had been banned on grounds of party tension, recognised as a threat to public peace.

Cameroon’s Interior Minister, Paul Atanga Nji, had few months back, recognised Kona as leader of PCRN. His move had been criticised by observers who condemned his interference in party politics and agreed the PCRN battle was a possible ploy to distance Libii from the presidential wrestle come 2025.
