Public Works Minister, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi has officially launched the 141km stretch of the Yaounde-Douala phase II motorway and says construction works are expected to be over in 36 months. Officially launching the works, the Minister reassured the local population that government has taken adequate measures to compensate them for every property that will be destroyed in the course of the construction works.
The conception and construction of the stretch linking Cameroon’s Bibodi village to Cameroon’s economic capital, Douala, was launched last October 2, 2024 by Public Works Minister, in the presence of the Minister of State Property and Land Tenure, Henri Eyebe Ayissi.
Minister Nganou Djoumessi urged the population to collaborate with the company for the project to be harmoniously executed within the time frame.
The Yaounde-Douala motorway that will pass through some villages such as Mapubi, Song Ngos, Bompb, Obang within the Nyong and Kelle Division of the Centre region upon completion, will facilitate the movement of goods and persons between Cameroon’s two largest cities and on the Douala-N’Djamena, Douala – Bangui and Douala Brazzaville corridors.
The second phase of the Yaounde-Douala Motorway is expected to cost some FCFA 880 billion.
Apart from the 141km to be constructed, the infrastructure will also consist of a 34.5km stretch to link-up with the existing road.
The project director of the Company in charge, China First Highway Engineering Company, Mr. Wen disclosed that, “the project has been subdivided into different portions, namely: Bibodi-Bodmon (39.5km), Bodmon – Edea East, Song Dong (34km), Edea East, Song Dong- Edea West, Logbajeck (30km), Edea West, Logbajeck-Petit Garre (18km)and Petit Gare-Massoumbou (19.5km).’’
Recal that the first phase of the project (60km) from Yaounde to Bibodi with an access road to Boumnyebel, is already completed.
