The DAWN Association, Development Advocacy Welfare Network, on Saturday November 9, 2024 at Council Hall Down Beach Limbe, donated back-to-school items which comprised books, school bags, pens, pencils, erasers among others worth FCFA 3.9 million
According to the president of The DAWN Association, Tricia Oben, this is the 3rd annual back-to school gift event carried out by the association to assist needy children from rural areas who are enrolled in school, in order to foster back to school in the South West region.
She said the event, organised by the non-profit organisation is run by journalists, and focuses on providing essential school supplies and support to children from disadvantaged homes in rural areas across the South West region of Cameroon.
The Back-to-School event is dedicated to helping school-going children from vulnerable backgrounds in the six divisions of the South West region, ensuring they have the basic materials needed for a successful school year.
Tricia Oben said the main goal of The DAWN Association is committed to supporting development, advocacy, and welfare, and it remains deeply focused on the needs of youths in the region, particularly those facing educational barriers.
It should be noted that last year, the event reached approximately 700 children, providing them with essential supplies and a warm start to the academic year, while this year they aim at reaching about 1,200 children in the South West region.
“Every child deserves the chance to succeed in school, regardless of their background”, Tricia Oben said.
“Through this Back-to-School event, we hope to empower children from underserved communities, giving them the tools and encouragement they need to pursue their education with confidence”, she furthered.
Tricia Oben added that as the event continues to grow, The DAWN welcomes local community members, businesses, and sponsors to join in their mission of empowering children across the South West region.
Speaking shortly after the brief event in Limbe, Regina Molinga who spoke on behalf of her peers appreciated The DAWN Association and sponsors for assisting them with back-to-school items which she said will assist them a long way to reduce the burden of their parents as the Anglophone crisis persists.
She promised to be hard-working in school in order to merit more gifts from The DAWN Association and partners.
