The House Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt Hon Cavaye Yeguie Djibril has described 2025 as ‘‘a very sensitive year given the presidential election in Cameroon’’ and he called on ‘‘government to do all in its power to organise elections in a peaceful atmosphere and also enable Cameroon to begin 2025 in peace.’’
He was speaking last November 12, 2024 while officially opening the November ordinary session of Parliament dedicated to the scrutiny and adoption of the 2025 State Budget. The official opening plenary sitting at the Lower House of Parliament was attended by cabinet Minister and Minister of State, Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh.
The House Speaker equally talked of Cameroon becoming an industrial country and he said that is ushering in a lot of hope for youths’ employment.
Cavaye Yeguie Djibril called on Cameroonians not to abandon the agricultural sector and to invest mostly in cocoa production. The agricultural and energy offers will make Cameroon great again with industrialisation and homes to benefit from this supply, he pointed. Government should invest in this energy sector, he urged.
He called on universities to embrace the Entrepreneurial world so as to train students capable of employing others when they graduate.
He urged government to draw lessons from the sad happenings so that it would be avoided in the future because, prevention is better than cure.
The House Speaker underlined that 7 million Cameroonian children don’t have birth certificates.
Immediately after the opening session, government deposited 10 draft bills for scrutiny and adoption by the National Assembly last November 13, 2024. The news was announced by the Senior Vice President of the National Assembly, Hon Hilarion Etong at a plenary sitting. Government has therefore indicated that there will be no leisure time for MPs in this November ordinary session.
The bills concern amongst others of draft bill on traditional medicines in Cameroon, bill on civil protection in Cameroon etc. Other two bills were deposited last November 15, 2024.
