The Sub-delegate for Social Affairs in Nguti Sub Division, Kupe-Muanenguba Division, South West Region of Cameroon, Makela Reuben Motoko, has concluded his sensitisation tour to persons with disability in his jurisdiction. The sensitisation tour that took him to the entire Sub Division ended last December 3, in Nguti, with the donation of basic needs to the beneficiaries, during the celebration of the 33rd edition of the International Day of Persons with Disability.
The basic needs donated included 10 white canes, 1 Tricycle, 3 wheel chairs, 10 Crutches and 10 Mosquito nets. According to the delegate, the donation is from the Nguti Council, thanks to the decentralisation funds from the Ministry of Social Affairs.
One of the beneficiaries, Ntoh Oscar from Manyemen village, thanked the delegate for thinking about them and went further to praise the Council and Government for assisting them.
The Delegate, Makela Reuben Motoko disclosed that The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed every December 3. He hinted that the day aims to promote the rights and wellbeing of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development. He said it also seeks to raise awareness about disability issues and to mobilise support for the dignity, rights and wellbeing of individuals with disabilities.
The day was established by the United Nations in 1992 and focuses on various themes each year to address specific challenges and promote inclusivity. The 33rd edition of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was celebrated under the theme “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disability for an inclusive and Sustainable Future”.
