NW governor launches war against illicit fuel, other contraband

The governor of the North West region, Adolphe Lele L’Afrique, has launched an immersive war against the rampant sale of illicit fuel commonly called “funge” and other contraband from neighboring Nigeria. A meeting to this effect held at the northwest governor’s office on Monday, May 29, 2017 chaired by the secretary general at the North West governor’s office, Lanyuy Harry Ngwanyi, attended by all the stakeholders charged with the regulation of goods.
The current crisis meeting summoned by the governor of the region is aimed at bringing sanity in the dealing in contraband goods especially the illicit fuel sold publicly and rampantly with children and people of all works of lives involved in the business. This move is coming after legal fuel dealers of the region have complained about the situation severally to the authorities.
The SG at the North West governor’s office Lanyuy Harry Ngwanyi, who chaired the Monday, May 29, 2017 meeting on the instruction of his governor, was categorical to the stakeholders to see into it that they put order in the sector. He told them that the indiscriminate importation of cars and other goods from Nigeria at the detriment of the state and tax payer pushes the state coffer to run dry. He regretted that some government officials, including the police and customs officials connive with the illegal importers to cheat the state.
The regional delegate for trade and commerce for the North West, the chief of sector of the custom department and officials charged with the enforcement of law and order were instructed to put up a fence that will not allow people to cross with the illicit goods.
