The African Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Cameroon has successfully trained and released into Africa 46 holders of a Master’s degree in Mathematical Sciences on Friday June 23, 2017, in Limbe. The 4th graduation ceremony was presided over by the Secretary General at the Ministry of Higher Education, Horace Ngomo Manga, who sat in for the Minister.
Speaking during the solemn occasion, Horace Ngomo lauded the graduating students for their patience and sacrifice during this one year of intensive and innovative program: “I wish to congratulate all of you for going through this program. I strongly believe that this one year of intensive training has made each of you to be well grounded, equipped with excellent problem-solving principles and skills.”
He equally commended the measures taken by AIMS for effectively training the students through innovative pedagogical approach; as well as the all the efforts put in by both the national and international mathematical gurus, who invested their expertise and knowledge in the students for one year.
The Secretary General was enthusiastic, as most of the graduating students were Cameroonians, whom to him will contribute immensely to the attainment of the Head of State’s vision 2035 project. As a result, he pledged the continuous collaboration between the Ministry of Higher Education and AIMS Cameroon, to train many more as these, who will address tomorrow’s problems.
On his part, Prof. Marco Garuti, AIMS Cameroon Academic Director, said the innovative and skills courses are meant to better prepare the students for an entrepreneurial career and life: “For one year, we have squeezed and pushed these students to their limits, breaking points in order to bring out the best in them and bestow in them what we carry.”
Mary Bernadette Fultang Timchia, Chief Operating officer, hailed the devotion of the students and their determination to succeed: “Despite the instability in the country, internet shutdown and other upheavals, you stood your ground and faced the challenges. I am so proud of you because you are all graduating with excellent grades and flying colours.”
The best graduating student, Paul Honore Takam from Cameroon, first child and head of a family of eight, expressed his gratitude to all his tutors and classmates for the various roles they all played in his life, which enabled him achieve great success: “We have been equipped with the necessary tools to become great scientists, great entrepreneurs and great business professional, so let’s go and create our own world.”
It should be noted that the 46 graduating students hail from 13 African countries; Cameroon, Nigeria, Madagascar, Benin, Congo, Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Central African republic, Zimbabwe and Rwanda.
