Security officers have arrested and detained a man along the Kumba-Mamfe road with some 500 cartridges.
He was bundled out of a transport vehicle on February 27 at the check point adjacent Government Bilingual High School, GBHS Mambanda, Kumba III a few meters from the Mambanda motor park on his way to Akwaya in Manyu Division.
Reports hold that the officers at the check point were on their normal patrol, checking both passengers and luggage when they stopped the vehicle of the suspect and searched as well.
In the course of checking, the officers discovered a luggage containing cartridges, plasters, and other first aid materials for treating wounds.
The officers asked the driver to identify passengers and their luggage but the purported owner of the bag containing the cartridges disowned his property but later admitted to being the one transporting the items after serious interrogation by the security officers.
The Sun gathered that security officers also arrested the driver of the vehicle and some passengers for questioning.
The passengers were later released that same day in the evening except for the owner of the cartridges and the driver.
The Kumba-Mamfe Highway Drivers Union is currently trying to free their colleague while stating that he had no knowledge of the type of cargo he was transporting.
Meanwhile investigation is still ongoing and security officers are trying to find out whether the man had any help or links.
In a separate case, Security officers on Thursday, March 1st, arrested a man after he received a substantial sum of money from a bank in Kumba.
According to security operatives, the huge sum of money was sent from the Diaspora to sponsor the activities of ‘separatist fighters’ in Meme Division.
Security officers, who monitored the transaction of the suspect, arrested him immediately after he successfully collected the money.
