The Minister of Secondary Education, Prof Nalova Lyonga has donated computers to the Human Resources Department of her ministry in order to salvage what she decried as a poor data system.
Officially handing over the twenty modern computers to the Director of Human Resources of the Ministry of Secondary Education at a ceremony in the conference room of her Ministry in Yaounde last March 22, 2018, Minister Nalova Lyonga explained that she was touched during her visit to different structures hosting her services to discover that not only did the ministry lack a viable database for teachers and staff, but the Department of Human Resources had only few archaic computers without a password despite many schools and staff it manages.
Though the twenty computers may be small the Minister reassured that her gesture is a significant one that stresses on the need for her collaborators to build a viable database for the ministry. She promised that “after SIGIPES, we will continue with the biometric identification of the entire staff of the Ministry of Secondary Education.”
In appreciation, the Director of Human Resources of the Ministry of Secondary Education on behalf of all staffs expressed gratitude to Minister Nalova Lyonga for the gesture coming barely few weeks after her installation as Minister. He expressed the wish that the modern computers be used to ameliorate their work especially as “we have been struggling for the past two years since my arrival at this position to build a viable database but with a lot of difficulties.
Describing the donation as a foundation laid today, the Director of Human Resources expressed hope that the work will speed up in the days ahead.
On what problems the computers will solve, the Interim Secretary General of the Ministry of Secondary Education, Ebone Paul Tiku told reporters that “I don’t want to say problem because it is a continuation. The number of teachers is increasing every day and handling it manually or with a few computers cannot solve the problem. These computers have come to make things go faster and we expect that in the future, files will be treated faster to the satisfaction of teachers, staff and other users.”
