Some unidentified gunmen in Kumba on Sunday, July 29, surfaced on a bike and set a police vehicle on fire, The SUN learnt.
Eyewitness account holds that the incident which took place around 11:00am that fateful day triggered gunshots around the Fiango neighbourhood.
As at the time of this happening, the town had already gained steam with most inhabitants going about their normal activities. Some Christians had already returned home from church while some churches were still in session.
According to an inhabitant of the Fiango neighbourhood, though the sound of the guns quickly subsided, denizens of that area took refuge indoors for fear of a repeated scenario of Friday, July 27.
Bullet kills Kumba taxation staff
A tax official of the Kumba Taxation Office, Columbus Fozao died of bullet wounds following Sunday shootings in Fiango.
The information of his demise swept through the town and social media during the evening hours of Sunday. Though difficult to connect if he was trapped within the scene at the time of the shootings, reports suggest that Fozao Columbus was in a popular spot in Kosala where achu is sold.
He is said to have been in the company of others who escaped when they heard the gunshots. It is alleged that he was hit by a bullet when he returned from his hideout to get one of his slippers which slipped off his foot.
Another version holds that he was consuming beer and got wounded as sounds of gunshots sent scores escaping. He is reported to be a traditional ruler in Lebialem Division in the South West Region.
