As the ongoing unrest in the North and South West regions deepens, government has multiplied efforts towards apprehending those considered to be the masterminds behind the crisis.
The hunt is in a bid to bring in more Anglophone activists such as the likes of Mancho Bibixy, Tsi Conrad, and Penn Terence amongst others who stood trial before the military tribunal and were each slammed heavy jail sentences to be served at the Kondengui Maximum Security Prison. What started as a strike action, has since turned violent with the military allegedly burning down whole villages and homes of those considered as enemies of the state. This includes those voicing dissatisfaction with the Yaoundé regime as well as those calling for a separate state for the English speaking regions of Cameroon.
Recent statistics by civil society organizations show that about 120 villages have been burnt to the ground in the two English speaking regions, while about 11.000 people remain internally displaced. A majority of whom are taking refuge in the bushes and forests.
According to trusted security sources friendly to THE SUN, another activist, Ngubure Akama Misodi is currently under police radar for being one of those inciting the violence in the Anglophone regions through his activism. Reports hold that Mr. Ngubure, a movie producer and distributor, was an active member of the outlawed Southern Cameroons National Council, SCNC a movement in Cameroon fighting against the marginalization of Southern Cameroons and for the autonomous state of Southern Cameroons.
Following the mass protests that broke out against the regime in power in 2016 in the Anglophone regions, many protesters were arrested and a subsequent manhunt for Ngubure Akama Misodi by security officials began. Mr. Ngubure’s situation took a turn for the worse when in 2018, he embarked on a movie project titled ‘THE ROAD TO FREEDOM’ which saw the forces of law and order intensify the search for his whereabouts and arrest. As a result of this development, his mother’s home in Kake village in the Meme Division of the South West Region was razed as efforts to bring him in proved abortive. The security operatives were also reported to have then moved in on the production set of the movie ‘THE ROAD TO FREEDOM’, ruining all of their footage and equipment, molesting crew members with one reportedly incurring a gunshot wound as they determinedly sought information on his whereabouts. Mr. Ngubure Akama Misodi has since been declared wanted by the regime. The government is still cracking down on SCNC activists with impending jail sentences upon arrest.
As at press time, the search for activists of the Anglophone struggle; Ngubure Akama Misodi, along with Ketchen Ayuk Sone, Okanda Emmanuel Njimeriki and Neh Sylvia Mbole continues to gain momentum. According to reports, they are not only wanted for fanning the flames of the crisis but also for being extremists and terrorists.
