The representative of the South West Regional Paymaster General, Ewane Cliford Ngambe, deputy treasurer general number II for South West Region has raised an alarm decrying low deposit of funds in treasury by municipal treasurers.
He revealed this on Tuesday March 26, 2019 during the first bi-annual general assembly of the association of South West municipal treasurers which took place at Limbe I council hall down beach.
According to Ewane Clifford, the hierarchy of financial jurisdiction in the Region is not pleased with the outcome of municipal treasurers’ financial records, as the rate of deposits of financial statement is low, representing 60.6% for the month of February 2019, representing 20 municipal treasury stations out of 33.

According to Ewane Clifford, the hierarchy of financial jurisdiction in the Region is not pleased with the outcome of municipal treasurers’ financial records, as the rate of deposits of financial statement is low, representing 60.6% for the month of February 2019, representing 20 municipal treasury stations out of 33.
“The situation is currently greatly affecting the performance of South West financial jurisdiction in the national classification, however there are some municipal treasurers who are making effort every month while others hardly follow sort”, he said.
Ewane also regretted that, the rate of deposit in January stood very low at 24.2% representing just 8 out of the 33 councils and equally only 18 out of 33 municipal treasurers have so far deposited their 2017 management account at the audit bench of the Supreme Court in Yaounde.
“Through this association therefore, we expect you people to exchange ideas and experience and even come to directly assist each other ensure that, operations are all handled by all, with the regular production statement and effective deposit” Ewane stated.
He however urged the municipal treasurers to put up a platform for debate and mastery of various laws of decentralisation, the account framework of councils and various ministerial instructions as well as those from the technical hierarchy on the handling of local accounting operations.
While urging them to be apolitical in their actions and activities within their association and not to resort to activities of syndicates, but concentrate on issues that concern their profession so as to ameliorate their performance as accountants.
Ewane Clifford is optimistic that, with the creation of this framework, there will be more collaboration and synergy action for a better understanding of procedure, text and proper handling of accounting operations within the municipal treasury stations and subsequently production and depositing of summary statement will be encouraging.
On his part, the President of the Association of South West Region Municipal Treasurers, SWAMUT, Sona Simon Makia said, the creation of the association is an opportunity to the municipal treasurers of the South West Region in particular and financial jurisdiction as a whole to continue to have a framework on which efforts and ideas are exchanged for a better handling of accounting operations.
“We have our own challenges but as we serve the people, we should make the people know we are working for them, if we work selflessly” Sona Simon told his peers
