Former Kumba Nigerian Union President captured and freed
Popular Kumba businessman and former Nigerian Union President, John Lemchuku aka Johnanatex has been freed from captivity. It was a horrible scenario on Wednesday May 15, 2019 at about 3pm around SONAC Street in Kumba, Meme Division, when commuters watched with perplexity how some unidentified men surrendered the Nigerian businessman at gun-point and asked him to mount a motorcycle and accompany them to their hide out. Without hesitation, the bemused population watched the former Kumba Nigerian Union President mount the Motorcycle to an unknown destination. As eyewitnesses stood wondering where Johnanatex must have been taken to, he suddenly reappeared after about 50 minutes at the same area where he was abducted. He moved directly to his Attorney’s office and decided not to make a comment where he was taken to, as the population moved towards him to comment.
Military allegedly gun down a man in Kumba
A young man said to be a sand digger and an Indian bamboo seller popularly known around the Kumba -Buea road park area as Derrick aka Baba, is reported to have been allegedly gun-down by the military. The shocking incident happened on Saturday May, 18, 2019 at about 8:30 am. The SUN gathered that, the military, in their escort were leaving Kumba and heading towards Buea. It is alleged that the military saw Derrick around the Kumba- Buea park where he usually carries on his activities, dressed in a ‘suspected’ manner, and one of the soldiers asked him about three times to come and present himself, but Derrick aka Baba, considered by many as insane, took on his heels. Unfortunately, he was allegedly shot twice and he died on the spot.
Alleged Separatists fighter killed, many others arrested in Kumba
An alleged separatist fighter whose only name The Sun got as Cletus from the Oroko extraction in the South West Region, has been shot death by security operatives, and many others arrested. This is as a result of a fruitful mass arrest commonly known as ‘kalekale’ that took place during the early hours of Monday May 13, 2019 in Mile 1 Kumba, Meme Division, South West Region. Denizens of the area recount that a mixed control made up of the Police, Gendarmes, and Army stormed the area at about 4am and were knocking at all the doors for inhabitants around the targeted area to identify themselves. In the course of the security exercise, there were sporadic gun shots from the security operatives. At the end of the smart exercise that lasted for about 3 hours, the harvest by the security operatives was huge, reports say. Denizens with or without National Identity Cards were arrested and taken to the Kumba Central Police Station, and an alleged “amba boy” was shot and later died, and some separatist fighters arrested and are currently undergoing interrogations. It should be recalled that about 80 persons were arrested in that raid, and were later on released without paying a dime as bail fee.
More unidentified corpses discovered in Meme
The phenomenon of unidentified corpses in Meme Division, South West Region of Cameroon is becoming alarming. Though no one has authoritatively made a statement as to who is responsible for this, during the week just ending, Ikiliwindi in Konye Sub Division, and Kake 1 village in Kumba 1 Sub Division all in Meme, have been the center of attraction with multiple corpses seen abandoned. Whereas in Ikiliwindi around the weigh bridge reports talk of about three corpses, in Kake 1, reports talk of one corpse found around the bridge linking Kake 2 village. Divergent reports say the abandoned corpses are suspected separatist fighters, some say they are alleged ex-convicts. The population is worried, especially with regards to the health hazard it might cause. Recently, a councillor of the Konye council during a council session raised an alarm on the issue.
