Following the ongoing deadly Anglophone crisis, which is gradually sweeping off the population of the Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon (English speaking), there has been an increase in the number of kidnapped civilians.
Barrister Mudi Nfor who stems from Nkambe village, Ndonga-Mantung Division of the North West Region, has been a practicing Attorney-at-law, in the city of Buea for the past years.
He seconds as a member of the Cameroon Bar Association and the Nigeria Bar Association. Also, his professional integrity and influential cry as a human right activist, made him very popular and loved by his community, but has made him wanted, wanted by the unknown.
Due to the constant attempts to be kidnapped, he escaped from his law chambers in Buea, evacuated his residence in Buea and eloped with his wife and family to an undisclosed location for safety.
Apart from that, Barrister Nfor explained to The SUN Newspaper, giving insights on how he narrowly escaped the hands of gunmen, who attempted to kidnap him on August 22nd, 2018 at his Buea-based residence, located in the mile 14 neighborhood.
He said the attempted kidnap came after he had been receiving numerous threats over the phone, from unidentified individuals, accusing him of working and speaking against them.
To add, Barrister Mudi narrated further that, on March 12, 2019 the threat extended to his village in Binshua, Nkambe village in the Ndonga- Mantung Division, North West Region of Cameroon.
Four unidentified armed gentlemen showed up, thinking he had escaped to take refuge in his family compound in the village.
Given he was nowhere to be found, his elder brother’s wife by name Mudi Laura and her nine months old baby were kidnapped at gun point, and were kept in captivity for five days before gracefully being released by the abductors.
Barrister Nfor went ahead to recount a list of other lawyers who have been arrested and detained by the government of Cameroon, civil right activists who have been kidnapped as well as other civilians brutally killed in the process of freely expressing their thoughts and opinions about this heartbreaking destruction in the NW and SW Regions.
Speaking to The Sun Newspaper on Wednesday May 22nd, 2019 this legal practitioner emphasized on the devastating nature of the Anglophone crisis.
He said thousands of families have been displaced and hundreds of such families living in farm houses, just because they fear to be killed like others, if they live in their homes. Big cities like Buea, Bamenda, Kumba, Mamfe have all become war zones with stray bullets killing innocent people.
In addition, there has been a rise in the number of unknown phone calls, at one point posing as Separatists and at other attempts as Government agents, probably due to his blunt statements of facts on how negligent the leaders of the Nation are approaching this destructive crisis.
Barrister Nfor’s media outings on various Cameroon TV Channels such as Canal 2 English, Equinox TV, Afrique Media amongst others, has been preaching on the need for both parties involved in the Anglophone crisis (bullet combat), to respect Human Rights values to the latter no matter what.
“Where are we headed? Why are we destroying the future of innocent children? What is the fate of this nation Cameroon when all we breathe and live nowadays is hate, killing and inhuman practices” he questions?
“Being a law abiding citizen, added to my kind of profession as a legal practitioner who strives to promote peace, order and the respect for Human Right values, I have a passion for equality and freedom of speech by every human being”, Barrister Nfor says .
Also states that “I will keep doing my utmost best to sensitize the public on these core success driven values, while hoping the separatists as well as the government, drop their arms for a dialogue. This unrest in the NW and SW regions is still on heat after three years because the leaders of Cameroon are trying to use their filtered information, to solve a full fleshed problem”. An honest dialogue is the only way out. God bless us all”.
