The population of Kumba II is in tears, following the collapse of a semi-permanent bridge over the popular Kumba Water that cuts across the Green City, linking Kumba II Sub Division, Meme Division South West Region. The incident occurred on Thursday May 30th, 2019, the day said aside by the Christian community to celebrate the Ascension of Jesus Christ to Heaven.
According to reports, commuters using the bridge linking the National Headquarters of Apostolic Church in Cameroon, situated at Ntoko Street Kumba II Sub Division, and Kumba I Sub Division passing through the Total Filling Station, only got up in the morning to discover that the bridge that was constructed by the Authorities of the Apostolic Church about a decade ago had been swept off by water the previous day.
There was no heavy downpour on that day, but it surprised all and sundry that the stream had over-flown. Confronted with this situation, commuters and mostly Christians of the Apostolic Church remained perplexed, some of them with their marketable goods destined for the Kumba main market, and others with their Bibles en-route to church, had to make a U-turn and follow the Kumba Hill top area of the road to their various destinations which according to them will henceforth be costly and tiring for them.
Gov’t delegate’s attention drawn
Following the disturbing situation, the Authorities of The Apostolic Church in Cameroon, through the main Assemble Church Apostolic Pastor Rev, Aynichuo Emmamuel, immediately launched an appeal to the Kumba City Council, headed by the Government Delegate, Victor Nkele Ngoh, to come to their assistance and see to it that the bridge is constructed within the fastest possible time, so that it will curb the suffering of the populace especially Christians of the Church who use the bridge to easily gain access to the Church. For about a decade now, the man of God disclosed that the bridge, though constructed by handy efforts of the local Church has been of great help to all and sundry in Kumba.
Adding his voice to that of the Parish Pastor, Ngassa Pierre, a trader from three- corners in Kumba III Sub Division, opined that the collapsed bridge will affect him in particular, because he uses that area of the road to easily reach the Kumba main market with his goods. He disclosed that ever since the Apostolic Church with its meager resources constructed the bridge about a decade ago, the bridge has been of help to all, thus it is the moment for the Government Delegate of the Kumba City Council to re-construct the bridge soonest.
