Civil society organizations intensify campaign for peace

Some civil society organizations under the banner of Collective of Civil Society Organisations to Fight against Radicalisation and Terrorism, CRT have intensified campaigns for peace in Cameroon.
The caravan of CRT was visible in Kumba, chief town of Meme Division last week, with all the major billboards and walls of most buildings along the main streets covered with posters carrying varied messages all aimed at pressing for peace to return in the country, especially in the restive North West and South West regions.
From observing the posters, one can note that the CRT is made up of the Cameroon Military, Cameroon National Youth Council, and many other organizations.
There is no news about the fact that both the South West and North West regions are currently being rocked by a sociopolitical crisis which has gone on for close to three years, with calls for school boycott, ghost town, kidnapping of high profile personalities with the demand for ransom, burning of schools, houses and villages and above all killings.
Going by the messages carried on the CRT posters and pasted all over the Kumba, they read like ‘we want peace and development not destruction’, ‘lockdown and ghost towns undermine our economy and our well being’, ‘ the war has brought us nothing good, rather it has brought destruction’, ‘let’s all denounce kidnappings, burnings killings and rape’, ‘we need to rebuild our region after all these destructions, let’s begin now’, ‘children need to go back to school because they are our future’, and ‘ together, let’s overcome the fear and take our lives back into our hands’.
