Enow Abrams Egbe calls on election stakeholders to be ready for 2020 polls

The President of the Electoral Board, Enow Abrams Egbe has called on elections stakeholders in Cameroon to be ready to actively play their role during the 2020 municipal and legislative elections, following the extension of the mandate of Members of the National Assembly and Councillors. Speaking last June 27, 2019, at the Yaounde Mont Febe Hotel while chairing the 2nd ordinary session of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, Enow Abrams Egbe saluted “the implication of political parties unlike before in the mobilization of voters for the accomplishment of their civic rights.”
Congratulating the Director General (DG) of elections, Erik Essousse for successfully carrying out voters’ registration in preparation for upcoming polls, Enow Abrams Egbe said “The zeal demonstrated through massive voters’ registration makes me to be optimistic that there will be massive participation at upcoming polls in the country.”

Talking to reporters, he explained that “Our short term vision is to have at least 7 million voters registered in order to participate at upcoming polls and in the long term, we want to raise the number of voters to at least 1 million in Cameroon.”
A press release issued at the end of the closed-door session, explains that the DG of Elections made a presentation on the situation of the ongoing revision of the electoral list this year and notably, the state of new generation voters’ registration kits. Erik Essousse also spoke on the level of implementation of health insurance for members of the Electoral Board and staff of ELECAM and, the finalization of work contracts.
The session also enabled members to evaluate the terms of reference of their second field trip this year after which, they listened to an expose on the implementation of the project “Peace Building Fund” initiated by the government and the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP for reinforcing capacities to support pacific electoral process and social cohesion in Cameroon.
