Ex-students of Lycee Manengouba Nkongsamba better known by the acronym LYMANKONG have sensitized the Limbe population on HIV/AIDS. The sensitisation exercise, Sunday August 4, 2019, was accompanied by a free distribution of books about the sexually transmissible disease.
Aimed at keeping youths healthy for nation building, the president of the association David Bwembasaid the exercise was necessary to keep youths away from the devastating effect of HIV and AIDS. “Most youths contract the disease without knowing. So, they need to continuously besensitized on HIV/AIDS so they don’t contract the disease that can take their lives away,” he added.
Speaking during the sensitization and book distribution exercise, one of the organisers, Ngome Blasius noted that Limbe is one of the most affected cities when it comes to HIV/AIDS, reason why the city was prioritised for the sensitization and free book distribution exercise. “The sensitization campaign does not only target youths but adults, churches, IDPs, journalists among others because HIV does not only attack a special category of people,” he said.
The HIV/AIDS campaign, which brought LYMANKONG members from Littoral, West, North West and South West Region, culminated in a constituent General Assembly. Welcoming members from Littoral, Centre, North West, East and West regions, the President of the South West chapter of the Network, Sessekou Afendia Fobella, urged them to participate actively for the growth of the association.
During the internal meeting, the ex- students deliberated on and adopted the statusand bia-laws of the association. The also brain-storm on ways to develop their alma matter.
The project coordinator of the association, Guillaume Nde Tene, underscored the raison d’être of the association. “Given that students of Lycee Manengouba come from different cultural background and regions of the country including South West, North West, East Central, Littoral etc., yet live together in peace and love, the association was created to see how we can continue to live as a family as we were during our school days,” he expounded.
Giving a brief history of Lycee Manengouba the president of the association David Bwembasaid “the school started many years back before as college moden, it later became grammar school which gave initial education to prominent personalities, members of government, business people, clergy among others”
Guillaume Nde revealed that the association is planning to rehabilitate some classrooms that is painting and repairing roofs that are leaking in their alma matter among others. This first project is estimated at FCFA 8 million, and will start before classes resume in September 2019. .
Meanwhile, the Project Coordinator, Guillaume Nde implored other ex students who were not part of the meeting to contribute for the project.
