The first ever Limbe branch manager of the National Ports Authority, Ojongeno Oben Eta has been urged to be a model for the staff that shall be placed under his responsibility, and serve with rigour and unwavering dedication.
Ojong Eta was commissioned into office on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 in Limbe, by the Director General of the National Ports Authority, Josue Youmba who expressed confidence in the new branch manager and said the installation ceremony officially launches activities of their new structure in the Port of Limbe.
Describing Ojongeno as a consummate professional engaged in the performance of his duties, the Director General, Youmba challenged Ojongeno to put in all efforts to promote the threefold objective of the APN including: Establish an organizational framework in line with the new dimension of APN’s activities which, on the field are getting ever more diversified and complex; Bring APN closer to the different port authorities to make effective its regulatory mission and Provide an appropriate framework for the development and effectiveness of APN’s human resources.
The massive crowd within the walls of the Limbe City Council hall in down beach, made up APN officials, partner organizations, traditional authorities, family and friends among others followed with keen interest the installation rituals. When the Director General of APN, Josue Youmba announced with conviction and frankness that Limbe will soon welcome a deep sea port, the crowd went wild with applause and ululations. Many in the city continue to long for the dream to come true, which according to the Government Delegate to the Limbe City Council, Motanga Andrew Monjimba, will automatically transform Limbe into an economic hub.
Motanga speaking earlier in his welcome address, said the opening of the regional branch of the National Ports Authority in Limbe is a very welcome initiative as it shall serve as a proximity service aimed at bringing economic operators of the port of Limbe, future economic heartbeat of the city and Cameroon, closer to the ports sector regulator. “This closeness between the operators and the regulator, which is the National Ports Authority will certainly lead to better understanding of each other and a better business climate that will likely attract numerous other investors.”
Ojongeno, an indigene of Kembong village in Manyu division of the South West region of Cameroon was born on April 7 1981 in Limbe. He is holder of a Master of Science degree in Economics and after gaining experience in different organizations, he was recruited in the APN in September 2017 as an Administrative Executive in service at Regulation, Competitiveness and Port Activity Department where he worked in Competitiveness, Pricing and Quality Control Unit until his appointment as pioneer APN’s Limbe Branch Manager on September 12, 2019.
Talking to the press shortly after his installation, the APN Limbe branch manager said “We are in very trying times right now in Cameroon; we expect the population to be calm, cooperative and friendly.” He equally emphasised that “The National Ports Authority is the gendarme, managing the Port Authority of Kribi, Douala, Limbe and Garoua. It has an immense human resource and its always ready for any task.”
