The Minister of Forestry and Wildlife, Jules Doret Ndongo has expressed satisfaction on achieve-ments and realisations made at the end of the implementation of the five-year second phase of the French Debt Relief Programme (C2D) in the forest sector.
Speaking last November 14, 2019 in Yaounde while chairing a solemn ceremony for the presentation of achievements and realisations of the C2D project in the forestry sub sector, the Minister said the most concrete and visible result of the project is the annual production of statistics.
The Forestry and Wildlife boss rejoiced that at the end of the five-year project, the following achievements were recorded: the setting up of the Operational Unit for the Management of Forest and Wildlife Statistics in Cameroon (UOGSEFF), the setting up of the Operational Unit for the Monitoring of Forest vegetation, the reinforcement of capacities of schools and university institu-tions offering forestry training etc.
The ceremony was an occasion for heads of some structures which have benefitted from the project to give their testimonies such as the Mayor of Djeng, Mayor of Tonga etc.
The representative of the Director of French Development Agency while reiterating his country’s determination to continuously support Cameroon in the sustainable management and monitoring of its forests expressed the wish to see that the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife vulgarises this infor-mation linked to statistics and forest management to stakeholders at home and abroad.
The National Coordinator of the project, Ngomin Anicet who doubles as Director of Forestry at the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife explained that the implementation of the 2nd phase of the man-agement and monitoring of forest projects in Cameroon started in 2014 and entails the management of forests through the reinforcement of technical capacities of actors involved in forest and wildlife sector, the transformation of wood and the provision of materials to universities for practical field works.
