Reports say at least eight persons including a vessel captain were during the early hours of Tuesday, December 31, 2019 kidnapped off the coast of Limbe, when a passenger ship tried anchoring around SONARA. The attack is said to have been masterminded by suspected pirates who at press time were still at large. The SUN gathered that at least one person on board the ship suffered injuries and is currently being hospitalised at the Douala Referral Hospital. All eight are foreigners, including five Greeks, a Ukrainian and two Philippines.
At dawn on Tuesday, elements of the military were said to have been dispatched to the scene, though all maintained a sealed lip when contacted by the press for more information on the incident.
The vessel is known as Mt Happy Lady. At press time, an official statement was expected to be released from Yaounde through South West governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai. However, tongues have continued to wag on who the actual perpetrators of the incident are, considering the military-tight security around SONARA.
