As campaigns intensify for victory come February 9 2020, the ruling Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement CPDM of president Biya has not only mobilised resources (observed in multiple campaign gadgets of candidates) but is also using some big names, perhaps voices and faces to charm the electorate and get their votes.
The party’s central committee has joined the regional delegation to reecho the interest of the party in the Municipal and Legislative Elections in the country in general and in the North West and South West regions in particular.
Prime Minister, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, this Thursday, January 30 has hit the streets of Ebolowa in President Biya’s South, to canvass votes for his comrades of the CPDM. He is expected to be in Bertoua after Ebolowa, and then Douala on February 5, and Buea February 6, The SUN has gathered.
Also, the party’s scribe, Jean Kuete, alongside Yaou Aissatou were in Bamenda, North West region on January 28 and are in Limbe Thursday, January 30, 2019, to tell all who care to listen that, their beloved party, the CPDM is simply, the best.
Other party bigwigs like Elung Paul Che, Paul Tasong etc, have continued to charge the kiths and kin of Kupe Muanenguba and Lebialem divisions respectively, to “vote wisely.”
Jean Nkuete in North West
According to Jean Nkuete, the North West is the indisputable birth place of the CPDM and therefore is very important to the CPDM reason why the Governor of the region was present in the campaign meeting. Stressing that the CPDM is the only political party whose political stand is resolute on the unity and indivisibility of the country, he explained it was the reason the CPDM has participated in all elections in the country organised within the context of the law.
“It is for this reason that we did not hesitate to nominate our candidates from among our militants to stand in the February 9, 2020 municipal and legislative elections” he said. Acknowledging that it was not an easy task, Nkuete congratulated those who were retained as candidates for the twin elections. He appealed to those who were not retained by the party as candidates to remain faithful to the party and to participate fully so as to ensure the victory of the party in the elections.
While villages continue to go down to ashes and blood, the secretary general of the CPDM in his speech said “this is the highest trauma our country has gone through since independence but thanks to the wisdom and patriotism of our head of state President Paul Biya, life is gradually and surely returning to normal in the region.”
The atmosphere on the streets of Bamenda does not look like anything is happening as was the case in the past. The Bamenda congress hall was flooded by people in party regalia but not a single soul was seen on the streets with the usual CPDM T-Shirts. Immediately after the campaigns in the hall that was highly guarded by the military, militants went behind to take off their party wears while the party big wigs sneaked into their tinted glass jeeps and drove off to Ayaba Hotel and other secured hotels in town.
