Two alleged ‘restoration fighters’ were on Tuesday, January, 21 2020 gunned down, after a close confrontation between the fighters and a mixed contingent of defence and security forces. This was as a result of a mission dispatched to rescue 23 pupils kidnapped in a private Primary School in Kumba same morning by four alleged fighters.
The rescued children were presented in front of the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO for Meme, Chamberlain Ntou’ou Ndong, alongside weapons recovered by the military. Guns, charms, phones, machetes, drugs, a Holy Bible and more were some of the items recovered by the military after the bloody confrontation at Apollinaire street in Kumba.
Chamberlain Ntou’ou Ndong said it is a great day in Kumba to have rescued all the 23 children. “All, of them, 23, have been released, you see many guns seized from those Amba boys, two of them neutralised and today I can testify that a good job has been done”, he said.
The SDO further promised difficult times for the fighters: “We are here for the security of our population, you try…you face us.” The Meme boss called on parents to be very vigilant and report any suspected case to the defence forces for immediate intervention.
The children were later identified by their parents/guardians and taken home.
