The Regional Director of Eneo for the South West and Mungo, Marie Charlie Bassega has reassured the population of Fako and Meme Divisions of stable electricity supply from Wednesday March 25, 2020. Marie Bassega made the revelation last March 18, 2020 during an interview with pressmen in his office.
According to the Eneo Regional Boss, the rampant electricity cuts in the South West Region and Limbe in particular is blamed on vandalisation of Eneo structures in the Region.
He explained that, about 40 high tension polls have been destroyed in Tombel, while in other areas in Fako Division some unknown individuals have equally embarked on cutting down huge trees aimed at destroying high tension connections.
“The shortage of electricity in the South West Region is due to the fact that we have problems because of the line of Njombe-Kumba which has been vandalised. The transformer was over loaded and crushed. SONATREL informed Eneo they will bring a big transformer of 54 MBA to supply all lines from March 25” Marie Charlie explained.
The sad situation, the Regional Delegate of Water Resources and Energy for the South West Region, Atabongfack Maurice in collaboration with Eneo officers in the region, said the situation has caused the Region to be left with low Megabytes which is unable to satisfy the South West Region or even a Division. He appealed to the population to exercise patience as technicians are carrying repairs in the field.
It should be noted, for the past two weeks running, there has been frequent electricity cuts especially in Fako and Meme Divisions, with many city dwellers expressing frustrations.
Denizens during this electricity crisis period have been undergoing untold hardship, as they go around with phones and chargers, pay FCFA 200 to have them charged on noisy generators now nicknamed “help your neighbor”, some of which blow off the phones. Business persons with electricity related businesses, in the likes of those operating ‘Cold Store’, Barbers Shops, Money transfers etc continue to lament what they describe as an ordeal.
