Biya, UN SG’s Special Rep. discuss COVID-19, security, integration

The President of the Republic, Paul Biya last May 13, 2020 granted an audience at Unity Palace in Yaounde to the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and Head of the UN Regional Office for Central Africa, François Louncény Fall.
At the end of their tête-à- tête, the Special Representative of the UN SG revealed to the press that their discussion centred on the measures taken by the Government of Cameroon to curb the spread of the current global health challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic, security and integration within the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).

The Unity Palace August guest added that he equally discussed the situation in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon and was encouraged by the determination of President Biya to continue working for peace and stability, and revealed the availability of the United Nations SG in partnering with Cameroon to tackle COVID-19.
At the close of the one hour audience with President Paul Biya, the UN official, François Louncény Fall told reporters he was very encouraged by President Paul Biya’s availability to continue to work for the stability and unity of the country.
It is worth noting that the United Nations via its agency, the United Nations Development Pro-gramme (UNDP) as implementing partner, is a major stakeholder in President Paul Biya’s special plan for the Reconstruction of the North West and South West regions affected by more than three years of socio-political crisis generated into armed conflict.
François Louncény Fall reiterated the UN’s principles of promoting peace and stability, social cohe-sion and the use of non-violent means to find lasting solution to differences in the world.
